The Society

Shipston Music Society was founded in 1989 and its early years were dedicated to listening to recorded music. Since 2002 however, we have offered a mixture of live professional performances and illustrated talks in our season of events. We also have one concert a year for young musicians, giving them a chance to perform before a local public audience.

With a steady membership, we try to keep our subscriptions as low as possible, whilst offering a series of events to rival those of much larger music societies.

Our past concert performances have included a wide range of music from Classical to Jazz and a cappella to Opera, and we always try to include something that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. The Society is noted for its friendly and informal atmosphere, and the Methodist Church in Shipston with its excellent acoustics offers the perfect space for making music. Please see our Concert Reports on this website, which will give a good idea of our past events.

The Society is a registered charity and works closely with other music organisations in and around Shipston, notably participation in the Shipston Proms which takes place annually in June. As part of our outreach we have in the past secured grants and sponsorship to bring live music into our care homes and professional musicians into our schools.

In addition to our own concerts we like to arrange outings for our members to concerts and events in and around the Midlands. We are fortunate to have Symphony Hall, Birmingham only an hour away, and with such variety of music and performers it more than rivals many concert halls anywhere in the country.
