Shipston Music Society was founded in 1989 and its early years were dedicated to listening to recorded music. Since 2002 we have changed and now offer eight live performances and two illustrated talks in our season of concerts. With around 100 members we aim to keep our subscriptions as low as possible whilst offering a programme of events to rival that of much larger music societies.
Our concert programme includes a wide range of music from Classical to Jazz and cappella to Opera. We try to include something that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes.
The Society is noted for its friendly and informal atmosphere and our social events offer the chance to get to know each other.
The Society is a registered charity and works closely with the other music organisations in and around Shipston. As part of our outreach we have secured grants and sponsorship to bring live music into our care homes and professional musicians in our schools.
In addition to our own concerts we arrange outings to concerts in and around the Midlands. We are fortunate to have Symphony Hall, Birmingham only an hours drive away and with such variety of music and performers it more than rivals many concert halls in the capitals of the world.
The Music Society is affiliated to Making Music the Uk’s number one organisation for voluntary music.
