About the Society
Shipston Music Society was founded in 1989 and its early years were dedicated to listening to recorded music. Since 2002 we have changed and now offer six live performances and two illustrated talks in our season of events. With a steady membership, we aim to keep our subscriptions as low as possible whilst offering a programme of events to rival that of much larger music societies.
Our past concert programme has included a wide range of music from Classical to Jazz and cappella to Opera, and we always try to include something that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. The Society is noted for its friendly and informal atmosphere, and the Methodist Church in Shipston with its excellent acoustics offers the perfect space for making music. Our Concert Reports provide a good idea of our past events.
The Society is a registered charity and works closely with other music organisations in and around Shipston, notably participation in the Shipston Proms which takes place annually in June. As part of our outreach we have in the past secured grants and sponsorship to bring live music into our care homes and professional musicians in our schools.
In addition to our own concerts we aim to arrange outings to concerts in and around the Midlands. We are fortunate to have Symphony Hall, Birmingham only an hour away, and with such variety of music and performers it more than rivals many concert halls in the capitals of the world.
Membership costs £30 per year per person, and offers free admission to 8 concerts including our annual orchestral concert, priority booking at our membership rates to external concerts organised by the society and invitations to our social event.
Visitors tickets can be purchased at £8 per evening, Students £3 (possibly more for our June orchestral concert) and any visitor subsequently wishing to join will be offered a refund of the cost of one visitor ticket against their membership subscription.
